A new beginning: migrating database systems to new environments

The rule of thumb in IT is that ’hardware used in production becomes obsolete every 3 years and needs to be replaced and upgraded’.

So far so good. The boss approves, the financial department approves, the IT department writes the specs and the vendor eventually delivers the hardware and installs it.
